1. Continually hitting driver off the tee Basic course management costs offenders multiple shots (and balls) per round but these can be eliminated by taking a few seconds on the tee to have a think about the most sensible way to play each hole. This may sound like not being ‘gung-ho’ and taking the easy way out but wouldn’t it be better to have that argument with your playing partner with yourself in the middle of the fairway hitting a 6/7 iron to the green whilst they are rummaging in the trees and undergrowth for their ball? 2. Short game shot selection How many of us can hit a 20-yard flop shot to within a foot? Playing within your means can save numbers on the scorecard, help beat your mates and by doing so, bring your handicap down.’ “Wouldn’t it look great if I pulled that one off?” Yes, it would, but it won’t look so great when you’re wading about in waist-high rough after knifing it at knee height, 40 yards through the back. Keep it as close to terra-firma as possible when playing shots around the green” (GolfMonthly, 2018) 3. Not taking enough club Arguably, the most common mistake made by amateur golfers is not taking enough club. Just because you once hit an 8 iron 155 yards doesn’t mean that it’s your go to, hitting the green play. We all hit bad shots and miss the green occasionally but knowingly not hitting enough club is almost unforgiveable. 4. Clubs in the bag Coinciding with just taking a few seconds to think about each hole, do the same when putting the clubs in your bag. If you can’t help but hit a massive slice with your driver and loose balls each round, no matter what you do you can’t seem to stop it, then why have the driver in your bag in the first place? Surely, it’d be best to have a few lessons with your driver, just to save money on balls if nothing else? 5. Attempting to ‘hit the skin’ off it Which one of these statements do you hear most often about the golf game? The only way to hit the ball miles is trying to swing as hard as you can The golf swing is all about timing You know the answer to this question. What can AS Golf do to help? Luckily, here at AS Golf, we can offer a solution to each of these problems. Learn your yardages – club gapping sessions are available to ensure you know exactly which club to hit and when.
